More information : [TQ 4018 6881] SIMPSON'S PLACE [G.T.] (Site of). (1)
Simpson's Place, or Simpson's Manor, Bromley, was a moated house, probably early 15th century, demolished about 1870 to make way for modern buildings. John Simpson, who purchased the house temp. Henry VI, gave his name to it. (2-3)
The site of Simpson's Place is now occupied by a Friends Meeting HOUSE. There is no trace of a moat and the position on a hillside just above the valley bottom is unusual. However, the Tithe Map (a) shows a building with a pond rather like the arm of a moat on its E. side, described as "house, mead and pond." (4)
