Summary : A tower mill built in 1816. The mill ceased work with wind in 1862 and with it's engines in 1934. It is built of brick in a Flemish bond and then tarred. The machinery in the mill came from Burgh le Marsh, West End Mill, Lincolnshire.
More information : (TQ 30457436) Windmill (NAT) (1) Brixton Windmill, Blenheim Gardens, Brixton, London (170TQ/305744) Erected in 1816, this tower mill ceased operation by wind power in 1860 when a steam engine was installed. After standing idle for many years the mill was purchased by the London County Council who replaced the missing sails with new ones and installed the machinery from the derelict tower mill at Burgh-le-Marsh in Lincolnshire. The mill, standing in the open space of Windmill Gardens, can now be viewed and further details obtained from the park attendant. (2) Recorded by NRIM. Photographed. (3)
