CAREW MANOR SCHOOL

Beddington Park House, Manor house to the Carew Family. First built in 14th century as a medieval moated manor house. Rebuilt c1530-40 and again c1709-10. The north range destroyed by fire in 1865 and rebuilt as two projecting wings. Sold in 1859 to the Royal Female Orphanage and used as such until 1968. At present (2013) the Carew Manor School occupies parts and Council offices others. The Great Hall is Listed as are the Wings of the house. Within the Beddington Park are several Listed features including a Listed (and Scheduled) octagonal Dovecote, early 18th century.
