"Lawson Park, a herdwick in Monk Coniston, was sold by the Crown in 1625 - sold to Robert Dixon and others Arthur Benson being occupant (a) ..." (2)
Lawson Park is a two-storey farmhouse, built of rubble and rough-fashioned stones. The walls are whitewashed over. The roof, chimneys, windows and doors are all modern, and there remain no architectural features by which the structure may be dated. Barns contemporary with the farmhouse adjoin to south-west end, and there are outbuildings of later date against the north-west and north-east sides. In the living-room are old oak rafters, which the tenant's wife, Mrs Taylfort, stated were old ship's beams. Mrs Taylfort knows nothing of the history of the house but confirmed the name as published by Authority 1. (3)
