The Augustinian Priory of Blythburgh was founded, before 1135, as a dependency of St Osyth (Essex), for three canons. They increased to possibly six, but numbered four on the Prior's dissolution in 1537. Valued at #48 in 1535. (2)
Founded as a Priory or a dependent cell, it has a history of part dependency. Its late 13th cent valuation was #88 6 1 1/2. (3)
In 1850 the ruins, of what appeared to be a cross-aisled building, were robbed of material to repair,roads, etc. (4)
The published survey (25") of the priory remains are correct but they are in poor repair and completely overgrown. Not photographed. (5)
