More information : [SD 37871194] Gorsuch Hall. [T.I.]. (1) GORSUCH HALL was the home of a junior branch of the SCARISBRICK family. GOSEFORDESICHE (meaning a 'wet ditch') is mentioned in the 13c., when ADAM, son of WALTER SCARISBRICK, took up his abode there. RICHARD SUTTON and JOAN GORSUCH came into possion of GORSUCH HALL in 1390, and the SUTTONS held the place for over 100 years. The Hall was plundered during CHARLES I's time. It had a mill and a brick-kiln among its outbuildings, and a "large chapel-room" upstairs in the interior. GORSUCH HALL passed to the SCARISBRICKS in 1742 and was totally destroyed by fire in 1816, and now no trace of building or moat remains. There is a farm, however, perpetuating the name. (2) No traces of the preceding structure are to be seen in or around the present GORSUCH HALL, which carries a tablet inscribed "RESTORED 1895" with the arms of SCARISBRICK. (3)
