Hob Uid: 388725
Location :
Suffolk
Mid Suffolk
Great Blakenham
Grid Ref : TM1100050000
Summary : Alien Benedictine priory cell of Bec-Hellouin Abbey founded circa 1092 for 1 or 2 monks. However, it appears to have become a grange after 1230 when it was transferred to Ogbourne St George, when Ogbourne became the administrative centre for Bec in England.
More information : An alien priory cell for Benedictine (Black) Monks was founded at Great Blakenham (TM 1150) before 1092-1100 AD and dissolved before 1230? There were probably one to two monks originally, but before 1291 it came under the control of Ogbourne St George Priory, Wilts when it appears to have served merely as a grange. It was granted to Eton College in 1460. (1-2)
