Summary : A disused post mill built in 1760, but was modernised, and roundhouse built, in 1836. It ceased work in 1934 and was restored between 1966 and 1973. Timber framed and weatherboarded buck of 3 floors with a felted roof. 2-storey red brick roundhouse. Winding was by means of a fantail mounted above the steps: the fan carriage has been restored but the fantail is dismantled and stored inside the mill. One pair of patent sails remains. |
More information : (TM 19185975) Windmill (NAT). (1) A large post mill with a two storey roundhouse, is at Framsden. The post mill was built in 1760; originally, but in 1836 it was raised and the roundhouse built. The mill ceased work in 1934 and was preserved by enthusiasts from 1966 to 1973. Two of the four patent sails remain while the fantail is missing and there are two pairs of stones in the head. (Photos 1973 and 1976). (2-3)
