Summary : A Benedictine alien cell of Bernay, probably a grange, founded in 1156 and dissolved in 1414 was extant at Creeting St Mary. A second Benedictine cell of Grestein was founded at Creeting St Olave before 1087 and it was dissolved in 1360. There are no remains of either.
More information : An alien priory cell, more probably a grange for Benedictine Monks was founded at Creeting St Mary before 1156 and was dissolved before 1414. Messent stated that the parish church and rectory of St Mary were appropriated to it, and it appeared that the monks used the church for worship. (St Mary's Church is shown on OS 1:10 000 1977 at TM 09385670). (1-2)
