St Annes Chapel

Summary : A chapel stood on the south side of the road to Harwich in St James parish and was extant in 1768. There was a hermitage here which had a private endowment from St Botolph's Priory (TL92SE21). In 1388 John Newton occupied it and in 1417 the hermit was called the master of the hospital of St Anne de Halywell, but nothing is known of this hospital. No visible surface remains of this chapel, the site of which is now occupied by St James Parish Hall.

The chapel stood on the south side of the road to Harwich in
St. James parish and was extant in 1768. There was a hermitage
here which had a private endowment from St. Botolph's Priory
(TL 92 SE 21). In 1388 John Newton occupied it and in 1417 the
hermit was called the master of the hospital of St. Anne de

No visible surface remains of this chapel, the site is now
occupied by St. James Parish Hall. Not the Church. (6)
