Broughton Tower is a spacious mansion built round a 14th century pele tower. On the north side the tower is visible up to about 60 feet. In the mid-15th century the house was built. The windows are all ogee-headed. In 1832 to 3 the wings were added, keeping the front in harmony with the Georgian work. (2)

A rubble-built tower with well-fashioned quoins. All windows are modern except for a small square window above ground level in the north-east wall. Extensions against the north-west and
south-east sides have drainpipes dated 1744 and 1777. The south-west block is modern.

No traces are now to be seen of the Pigeon Cote. The site is 115.0m north-east of the tower which is a nearly level area in a pasture field.

"The artificial earthwork" (a) possibly refers to SD 28 NW 7
which lies within the grounds. (3)

Now a special school owned by the Lancashire County Council. (4)
