More information : (TL 97932474) A Roman military type ditch some 32 feet wide and 9 feet 7 inches deep, was excavated in 1939. It contained two or three early Roman potsherds. It was interpreted as a possible camp or fort, but in 1955 a sewer trench cut through the middle was negative thus disproving the theory. Further parallel ditches to the south (TL 97852464) also excavated in 1939 and thought to have been connected with the camp have now been seen to continue further south as a cropmark. (See excavation plan). (1)
