Castle Hill at Pennington consists of a semi-circular rampart and outer ditch adjoining the natural precipitous slopes of Pennington Beck, forming a strongly defended quadrant-shaped enclosure 156 ft by 132 ft. The original entrance appears to be on the south east side. No documentary evidence given. Plan. (2)
The sharp profile of the ramparts and small area of the interior of Castle Hill are out of sympathy with a prehistoric work but probably represent a ring castle. (3)
