More information : (TL 66511443) Bridge (NR) (1) A fine single-span bridge of brick of 15th cent date, with a two-centred arch, now crosses the moat at the original entrance to the SW. (2) The bridge is as described by RCHM, and has recently been restored. (3)
TL 666144. Excavation in 1978 and 1980 by S R Bassett established that the penultimate bridge between the motte and the S bailey (whose substantial flint-rubble footings apparently supported a timber superstructure with a retractable section) was constructed c.1200. The extant brick bridge was constructed in the late 14th or early C15th century. (4-5)
