ST EDMUNDS PRIORY

DESCRIPTION + /

Gilbertine priory and house of theological studies. Pope Nicholas IV intended it to be placed at the Friars of the Sack in Cambridge, which in 1290 he understood to be vacant, but it was still occupied in 1307. St Edmund's Chapel was granted to the master and canons of Sempringham in 1291, and was for a few resident canons and students studying at Cambridge. It was suppressed in 1539.
