BARNWELL PRIORY

DESCRIPTION + /

Priory of Augustinian Canons, founded, in 1092, moved from near Cambridge Castle to its present site in 1112. It was surrendered in 1538 and much of the stone was used for the new chapel of Corpus Christi College. The only surviving feature is a single vaulted chamber of mid 13th century much repaired, which was probably the kitchen, situated at the junction of Priory Road and Beche Road.
