More information : (TL2222 2827) Conduit (NR). (1)
A conduit head shaped like an oblong bath, full of water, communicating with springs close by and conveying water to the Priory. (2)
A small ruined structure of medieval date, built of flint rubble. Only the foundations and about 1 ft of the north, south and west walls remain, the east wall has been re-built with a gable partly in 16th-century brick. (3)
Water from it was used to turn the kitchen's spit of the house until the middle of the 19th century. (4)
A small roofless ruin 3.5 m square built mostly of modern brick but incorporating a little earlier material and a stone doorway. It is completely dry inside. See photo. (5)
The conduit head lies at the edge of a small piece of woodland within an arable field. The building is square, 3.8m x 3.8m. It is brick- built with only the gable end standing to full height. All the internal walls except the gable have three niches. The stone of the doorway is very eroded. The head of the door is of a late medieval four-centred arch type. (6) |
