BEDFORD CASTLE

The remains of an early 12th century castle, which was destroyed in 1224. The castle was built on the site of Mid Anglo-Saxon occupation.Located on the banks of the River Great Ouse opposite Rink Islands, Castle Hill is a roughly circular mound about 50 metres in diameter. An incline access up the mound sides is on the south side. Aerial photographs taken in 2016 show the earthwork mound to be extant.
