More information : (TL 095112) The Aubreys (NAT) Camp (NR) (1) The Aubreys is a well-developed plateau fort consisting of a double rampart and ditch, except on the NW where both are single, and on the E where the outer line has been destroyed. The inner rampart varies between 10 to 14ft and the outer rampart is 7 to 10ft above it, while the counterscarp on the W is 7ft high and the remaining scarp on the E is 6ft high. The distance between the double ramparts is from 50 to 60ft, Modern buildings occupy a gap in the S side. There is a well marked entrance in the W side, at the S end of a single rampart and a narrower one at the N end. (2)

General description by authority 2 correct. The site is now flanked by the M1 to the east; but the motorway construction has done no damage to the earthwork. Topographically the settlement occupies a plateau some 110.0m above sea level and is overlooked by higher ground on all sides. The western "passage" entrance is, almost certainly, original and the topographic lay-out suggests a former entrance to the south where modern buildings (now a hotel) stand. The area within the defences (circa 18.0 acres) is now under agriculture; there is no visible evidence of early occupation and local research recorded no contemporary finds of Iron Age character.
