More information : (TF 68780396) Winnold House (NAT) Remains of (NAT) St Winwaloe's Priory (NR) (Benedictine) (NAT). (1) Winnold House Grade II; 12th.c. and later; much modernised. (2) Alien Benedictine priory founded before 1199; dissolved c.1321. (3) "Some remains (of St Winwaloe's Priory) may still be seen in the walls of (Winnold House), about a mile N. of the village of Wereham. Other foundations may be traced in the vicinity". (4) Winnold house, now unoccupied, is constructed of stone and flint; it incorporates fragmentary remains of the Priory in the form of buttresses, windows and walling. Stone hood moulding with gargoyle and chevron ornament post-dates the Dissolution being 16th century domestic.
