Summary : Augustinian nunnery founded circa 1181 rebuilt 1420-4 dissolved 1536. Badly flooded in 1200, when it was temporarily abandoned. The church and many buildings were partly rebuilt in 1402-4.

Crabhouse or Crabb's Abbey, for Augustinian Canonesses founded c. 1181. The Priory appears to have been intended for the usual 13 nuns, and there were probably more than this in 1328, but here were only 8 in 1381. In 1514 there were some 10 nuns and at the time of the suppression the number was reduced to 4. (2)
