More information : (TF 68200983) A Medieval tile kiln, mainly used for the production of roof tiles, was excavated at Abbey Farm, Shouldham in 1969-70. The kiln measuring 3.6m by 2.5m internally, had been reconstructed at least three times. The original floor of the kiln consisted of trapezoidal tiles which probably date from before AD 1300; it is improbable that these were made in the kiln. It is assumed that the kiln was connected to the adjacent Gilbertine Priory of Shouldham (see TF 60 NE 3). Crop marks of a series of ditches were also recorded on air photographs. (Nothing visible on available air photographs). (1-2)
