[Area TF 4189 7141 (3)] Fordington was separately assessed in the Subsidy Rolls. The parish was united with Ulceby in 1450. In 1563 three families remained. Roman coins, a stone coffin and other antiquities are said to have been found at Fordington Church. (2-4)
Extensive earthworks indicate the site of the former village. Surveyed at 1/2500. See GP AO/64/201/8. There are no visible remains of the Church Site; slopes indicating the Churchyard perimeter have been revised at 1/2500. The Roman coins and other finds mentioned were not located. (5)
Deserted Medieval Village of Fordington was bulldozed in 1974 to E side of fence. Shelly wares and 17th century pottery found, now in Lincoln City and County Museum (LM106.76). During fieldwalking in 1976 other finds were made in the area including prehistoric flints, Roman and Medieval coins and other metalwork, Medieval and Post-Medieval pottery (LM106.77). (6-8)

The Medieval or Post Medieval remains of the village of Fordington, centred at TF 4192 7140, were seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. Several elements were recorded, including the grassed over foundations of the church, not located by authority 5. The church remains are 20m by 10m, and are located at the grid reference cited by authority 1.
A system of trackways were recorded, criss-crossing the site, centred at TF 4184 7156 and TF 4202 7132. The settlement is bounded to the north and east by a trackway defined by two banks centred at TF 4205 7154. Other elements recorded are rectangular platforms (10m by 7m) probably representing buildings at TF 4178 7148, TF 4174 7136, TF 4176 7131, TF 4207 7130 and TF 4206 7138. One building at TF 4174 7135 was previously recorded in TF 47 SW 4, as a triangular mound. A possible pond, 40m long, defined by a bank was recorded at the southern end of the village at TF 4203 7121.
There are also at least 12 large bank-defined enclosures (50 to 60m wide), probably crofts, centred at TF 4174 7146, TF 4179 7136 and TF 4208 7133. Several small bank-defined enclosures line the northern edge of a trackway at TF 4190 7142 and probably represent tofts. (Morph Nos. LI. 109.7.1, 7.2, 7.4 - 7.9).
