Hob Uid: 355612
Location :
Lincolnshire
East Lindsey
Dalby
Grid Ref : TF4085071570
Summary : Probable Medieval village remains (crofts, church, building, trackways and pond) seen as cropmarks and earthworks.
More information : [TF 4076 7158] Church [G.T.] (Site of). (1)

Dexthorpe is mentioned in 1086 and 1334. A priest was last
instituted in 1451 and, by 1577, the village was a pasture of
two acres in which stood the church and parsonage. Air
photographs seem to indicate an area at TF 4090 7153. (2-4)

Minor Earthworks of this village are centred at TF 4080 7152.
Published survey (25") revised with additions. (5)

Some earthworks were recorded around the grid reference quoted by
the previous authorities. The earthworks were mapped from good
quality air photographs. The Medieval village remains comprise
crofts, a church, a building, a pond and trackways.

The church was recorded as grassed over foundations at the grid
reference quoted by authority 1. It has a possible south-facing
entrance. Two trackways run across the site. One runs E-W, centred
at TF 4080 7158, and the other runs NE-SW, centred at TF 4089 7176.
They are ditch-defined.

Several croft boundaries run to the south of the E-W trackway. They
are mainly ditch-defined centred at TF 4079 7152. Further to the
east they are bank-defined (TF 4088 7148). There is a possible
square building at TF 4081 7156. It is 8m by 8m and defined by
grassed over foundations. To the south of the village is a pond,
40m by 10m, centred at TF 4076 7146. (Morph No. LI.109.1.1 - 1.6)
This description is based on data from the RCHME MORPH2 database.

The ends of possible croft boundaries show in the djacent field on the south at TF 4091 7145. (7)
