More information : [TF 44616459] Kelsey Hall in site of KELSEY HALL [G.T.] MOAT [G.T.] (1) Kelsey Hall, an ancient farm-house, was burnt down and rebuilt c.1854. The manor of Kelsey is mentioned in 1582. (2-3) The present Kelsey Hall is a late 19th. C. farmhouse; no trace remains of the earlier structure. The moat has been resurveyed at 1/2500. (4)
The Medieval or Post Medieval moat described by the previous authorities, was visible as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. It is a rectangular ditched enclosure, 120m by 80m, centred at TF 4461 6459, with an entrance gap on its northern side. There was no evidence of internal structures that might relate to the earlier manor house or hall. However to the east of the moat, centred at TF 4472 6456, are a group of conjoined ditched enclosures and adjoining field boundaries, which are possibly associated with the moated manor.
