The Medieval moat, referred to by the previous authorities, and probably associated settlement, were seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. The moat is only partially visible and encloses an asymmetric, curvilinear area measuring 80m by 70m and is centred at TF 4915 6715. Perpendicular embanked boundaries, up to 30m long, visible in the centre of the moat could relate to occupation there. Adjacent to the moat are a number of conjoined rectangular ditched enclosures, centred at TF 4916 6705 and TF 4923 6718. These could be manorial enclosures and/or tofts and crofts. The fragmentary remains of tofts and crofts are visible, north and east of the present village of Orby, centred at TF 4943 6726, TF 4928 6742 and TF 4881 6740. A hollow way, 300m long and centred at TF 4950 6706, extends east from Orby House. Four disperse blocks of ridge and furrow are visible, west and south of the present village, centred at TF 4911 6691, TF 4934 6686, TF 4889 6683 and TF 4860 6722.
