Summary : Stukeley regarded Vainona as the supposed site of a Roman posting station. There is no archaeological proof of this assertion.
More information : [Name TF 49945944] Vainona [Roman Station] [G.S.] (Supposed Site of). (1) Stukeley regarded Wainfleet as the site of the Roman town of Vainona. About 40 acres of land to the west of the modern town are considerably higher than the surrounding lands, and seem a likely site. Visited 1929 (3). An intelligent native [of Wainfleet] said that he had never heard of anything turning up on the field called "Vainona;" it is certainly higher ground than most around. Not proved. (2-3) No further information. There is no surface evidence of Ro. occupation at the site which is now under crop. (4) The supposed site of Vainona was near the old churches a mile from the present town. (5)
