The Medieval settlement, referred to by the previous authorities, was seen as a mix of cropmarks and earthworks, and mapped from good quality air photographs. An extensive system of tofts and crofts, covering an area 550m by 200m, is visible to the east and south east of Brackenborough Hall. Hollow ways, which cross at TF 3320 9049, divide up this area, and a platform is visible, in one of the tofts, centred at TF 3324 9046. A boundary ditch, possibly late in the development of the settlement for it may foreshorten the crofts on the east side, extends around the edge of the tofts and crofts, forming a large enclosure. The possible tofts and crofts to the east of the hall are smaller and narrower than those to the south west. Another area of possible tofts and crofts is visible to the north of the hall, centred at TF 3298 9079. Hollow ways run along the southern edge of these properties. Another hollow way extends, along the west of these tofts and crofts northwards, for 650m, and links the settlement at Brackenborough to that at Little Grimsby (see TF 39 SW 15). Some ridge and furrow still survives as earthworks, on the latest available air photographs, around the settlement, centred at TF 3339 9007, TF 3311 9037, TF 3288 9079, and TF 3278 9058. A moat (see TF 39 SW 2) and possible Post Medieval garden remains (see TF 39 SW 25) are visible in the vicinity of the settlement. (Morph No. LI.358.1.1-4, 2.1, 3.1)
