More information : [TF 3857 7240] St. John the Baptist's Church [T.U.] (1) A tiny Perpendicular church. The porch was added in 1743. Sutterby was formerly a village and parish. There are slight traces of earthworks at area TF 3863 7226, visible on air photographs. (2-4) The church is derelict and due for demolition. Restorations and extensions at different periods leave few architectural details of the original building; see G.P. AO/64/187/3 and AO/64/45/7 & 8.
In two grass fields to the south are slight indications of Md. agriculture; the only evidence of Sutterby having contracted to the present tiny hamlet. (5)
On the latest air photographs the earthworks cited by authorities 2-4 at TF 3863 7226 were seen as cropmarks. Other settlement boundaries are also visible as cropmarks at TF 3852 7233. (Morph No. LI.27.1.1).
