More information : [Area TF 3125 7714] Oxcombe is mentioned as early as 1086. Earthworks clearly visible over a large area on air photographs show that the village is now much reduced. (1-2) The hamlet of Oxcombe currently consists of a church, large house, farm and several cottages. The area of the earthworks is now under agriculture and there is very little to be seen of the building sites. (3)
Additional reference. (4)
The fragmentary remains of the Medieval settlement referred to by the previous authorities were seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. The possible remains of crofts are visible north east and south of Oxcombe manor, centred at TF 3106 7738, TF 3129 7718 and TF 3127 7698. No Medieval building remains were visible on the available air photographs. The interpretation of the features has been made difficult because natural drainage patterns have been incorporated into the layout of the village. There has also been some disruption to the earthworks caused by later drainage. (Morph No. LI.59.1.1-2)
