The Carmelite priory at Boston was founded 1293, and surrendered AD 1539. A short lane from the High Street led to the extensive site which reached from opposite Doughty Quay [name TF 32744380] to the "opening in Liquorpond Lane". Another front was in West Street, nearly opposite St. Lawrence Lane [TF32624384]. Nothing remains of the church which stood on the north side of the inner court referred to in 1640.
The friars moved to this site from their original place in Skirbeck in 1308, retaining their land there [White Cross Lane is published on 1/500 sheet 109/9/24 at TF 32884380. It is not known whether the name has any connection with the Carmelite house. (2-4)
