Tilney

Hob Uid: 351217
Location :
Lincolnshire
North Kesteven
Timberland
Grid Ref : TF1310058000
Summary : Possible site of a deserted Medieval settlement.
More information : Tilney is an extinct hamlet in the vill of Thorpe. In
1545 three houses in Thorpe Tilney, a possession of the dissolved
priory of Kyme, were granted to John Broxholme and John
Bellowe. A farm on a slight hill east of the Car Dyke may
represent the site.
[Small farm, unnamed on O.S. Maps, at TF 131 580, and on a
slight (25 foot) rise is probably that referred to.] (1)

Two farm cottages and adjacent yards stand at the suggested site.
The spot is known locally as Priory Hill, but was previously
called Spion Kop. The surrounding land is all arable with no
surface traces of desertion. (2)
