More information : (TF 15890479 to TF 16530374) "I have indicated on your tracing the line of what I believe to be a Roman Road. This road is visible as a low ridge running across my field and my neighbours'. It is my belief that this road started at Peterborough and travelling north between the "Forest and the Fen" as it was then, joined the King Street about 1 mile N of Baston, Lincolnshire, at Kates Bridge. The road is followable throughout this length by existing lanes, hedgerows etc and agger in places." (Plotted from trace.) (1) Nothing seen on available RAF cover, 1945, nor on OS/64/198 nor on annotated MS map (St Joseph) (photostat copy). (2) The bank is quite pronounced between TF16200420 and TF16550370 as it passes the R B settlement site (TF10SE3) and occasionally attains a height of 0.4m along this stretch, its full width being between 20' and 30'. Mr. Sergeant of Auth 1 has made minor excavations at the peak of the 'agger' but these have revealed no metalling. OS 1" Sheet 123 1963 shows a footpath along this line, and it is possible that this was a minor Roman road which had fallen into disuse as such but has continued to the present day in use as a footpath.
