More information : In a close adjacent to preceptory TF 008537 two mounds existed till 1854 (not on 1" of 1824) in which cannon balls were found (1). Cromwell placed his cannon on the hills to the west, battered down a great part of the church and pierced the bower with shot. (2.3). Nothing visible on air photographs. (1-4) Perambulation and air photograph inspection produced no evidence of a civil war work in this area; the only adjacent earthwork being a mill mound (TF 05 SW 9). Tithe maps not available in CRO for field names and the farmer had no knowledge of such or of any archaeological finds. To the west of the preceptory there is a rise of some 20.0m but this is not a topographically strong military offensive position. (5)
