St Tibbas Well

Hob Uid: 348337
Location :
Rutland
Ryhall
Grid Ref : TF0400010000
Summary : St Tibba's Well (unlocated)
More information : A spring on Tibbal's Hill, now corrupted to Stibbals's
Hill, from Tolethorpe to Belmsford Bridge. On the brow of the
hill near the spring is Hale Green. (1)

Many current traditions relate the connection of St Tibba
(c 690) patron saint of falconers, with Ryhalll... she is said
to have been buried there, but her remains were removed to
Peterborough. (2)

"Tibbal's Hill" and "Belmsford Bridge" are unknown to local
authorities including Rutland County Surveyor. Belmsthorpe is
doubtless a corruption of Belmsford but no authority could be
found to verify this. Tithe maps are not available and the well
was not located. (3)
