More information : [TF 03030698] Twelth century arch, probably re-set. Norman arch, St Mary's Hill, Stamford, scheduled. (1-2) This Norman arch is believed to be one of the postern gates of the town wall (a). The arch appears to be re-set in a later wall. (3) (TF 03030699) No 10 St. Mary's Hill incorporates at one side of the street front a 12th century doorway of 2 orders, the inner roll-moulded, the outer zig-zag, with rebated inner jamb. (see illustration card.) (4) (TF 03030700) No 11 St. Mary's Street incorporates the remains of a Norman house, named the Packhorse Arch, which leads to St. Mary's Passage. This arch of circa 1150 has a zig-zag at right angles to the wall surface, and is the doorway of the house. (5) (There is some confusion as to the exact siting of the Norman arch. Authority 1 gives a grid reference corresponding to an archway between Nos 9 and 9a St. Mary's Hill. Authority 4 quotes a 12th century arch belonging to No 10, and Authority 5 quotes an arch of circa 1150 belonging to No 11). (5) 1:1250 survey found correct. The arch is as described. The arch lies between Nos 10 and 11 St Mary's Hill at TF 0303606998. (6)
