Location :
Northamptonshire

Thrapston
Grid Ref : SP9964078750
Summary : Possible Middle Saxon mound, inhumation cemetery, and associated building.
More information : Occupation site (SP 99647875) NW of the church. Until its almost total destruction by recent building, there appears to have been a large artificial mound surrounded by a ditch. There were some indications of a stone structure, associated with medieval pottery, either within or on top of the mound. (1)

Occupation site (SP 996787). Further details of the mound and its structure have now been published. Inhumations apparently randomly aligned, and Ipswich ware pottery (dated from 650-850) were found. Possible Middle Saxon inhumation cemtery and possible Saxon barrow. (2)
