The monks of Pipewell Abbey had a grange at Rugby "that was I think, first near the church, where the Rectory house stands, and which was anciently moated round. I well remember a portion of the moat on the east side." In the latter 13th C it was removed to the Close of Rugby School (SP 57 SW). (2)

The former Rectory is now the William Temple College. The grounds are landscaped and there is no evidence of a moat. (3)
