2. Founded 1281, this Cistercian Abbey was suppressed in 1536;1,2 most of its buildings seem to have been demolished before the end of the 16th cent.(1)
The remains now (1939) consist of a length of precinct wall & a doorway of 15th cent. date, in poor condition [SP 50700646](1) (2-3)
3. "I have been unable to locate a gateway at SP50700646 but have surveyed a gateway in an old wall at SP50670646. From an entry in the Revision ONB - 1938 which states "an ancient gateway formerly leading to the river from Rewley Abbey situate on west side of Upper Fish Row" it seems probable that the feature I have surveyed is the gateway in question, it is known locally as 'The Water Gateway'.
