More information : The Home Grange was the most important grange attached to Stoneleigh manor in 1291. It lay close to, and south of the abbey. The mill was worth 6s, in 1291 (a.) and was leased, with its pond and a 'holm' or island, in the Avon extending from the mill bays to Alfletford, to Walter Whitwebbe in 1367 (b). Two fulling mills, 'close to the late monastery' are mentioned in 1546 (1-4)
The deserted Hamlet of Homburn In Rous may be the Home Grange in Stoneleigh. V.C.H.ii 159 identifies it with Sambourn, but V.C.H. iii,86 makes it clear that the enclosure problems at Sambourn were created by enclosing common and forest, not arable. (5)

The area largely lies in a grass-covered flood-plain where the river has, apparently, partly changed its course. No trace of the mills or grange was found, and there is no visible indications of depopulation in the area. (7)
