More information : [Marginal] In 1291 (a) Stoneleigh Abbey held land at Millburn and in 1364 (b.) it is referred to as the so-called 'manor' of Millburn. Elsewhere it is more correctly termed a grange and as such was leased in 1537 (c.) The grange was sold in 1556 (d.) with pasturage for 360 sheep on 'le Heth'.
Milburn - a deserted hamlet in Stoneleigh. Eleven people in tallage list of 1304 (Stoneleigh Ledger Book). Rous lists as depopulated.
Air photographs were examined. They were of poor quality and were of no assistance. The area was perambulated but no trace of depopulation was found. Examination of field names on inclosure maps and tithe awards also proved fruitless. |
