Summary : Mid 15th century, incorporating some 13th century work. Plan of two-bay chancel, central tower, two-bay transepts and three-bay nave. Probably built by William, Lord Lovell. The church probably stands on the site of an earlier church dedicated to the cult of St Cynehelm, the murdered son of King Coenwulf of Mercia (796-821, but said to have died before his father's death). It is mentioned in Domesday as a `minstre'. |
