Summary : A standing stone cross located in St Michaels churchyard. It is of stepped form and is medieval in date. It includes a base, consisting of a plinth and one step, a socket stone, a shaft and the remains of an ornamental knop.
More information : (Name SP 23608685) Cross (G.T.). (1) Churchyard Cross, Maxstoke. Situated south side of church. Tall octagonal shaft on socket stone. No steps. (2) See photograph. (3) The cross is still in position and unchanged in appearance. (4) The medieval churchyard cross comprises two steps, 1.2m and 2.0m square, the lower one flush with the ground, surmounted by a socket stone, 0.75m square, 0.55m high, with moulded corners, carrying a square to octagonal shaft 3.5m high, 0.3m thick, with a round moulded cap. Published 1:2500 survey correct. (5) Description of cross. Grade II*. (6) SP 2360 8685 (FCE) churchyard cross. Cross as described by Authority 5. (7)
