More information : SK 948443: Cropmarks of a nucleated Iron Age settlement consisting of enclosures, hut circles, stockyards and paddocks were recorded from the air beside a small tributary of the River Witham near Honington. The eastern side of the site has been destroyed by the now abandoned Lincoln and Nottingham railway. Nothing visible on OS air photographs. (1-2)
SK 948 443. Iron Age settlement. Scheduled no. LI/337. (3)
Prehistoric or Roman settlement was visible as cropmarks and mapped from good quality air photographs. The settlement consists of group of conjoined ditched enclosures and forms a complex site, with some overlapping features, suggesting more than one archaeological phase. The main group of enclosures are centred at SK 9481 4434 and many contain pits. Some small square (SK 9478 4435) and sub-circular enclosures contain central pits, which may be burial pits, or the sub-circular (SK 9475 4434 & SK 9479 4434) enclosures may be hut circles. A curvilinear boundary ditch at SK 9470 4431, may represent part of a larger enclosure, encircling the smaller enclosures. Fragments of ditch to the south-west at SK 9468 4424, suggests the site extends beyond the enclosing ditch. Further to the south-west is another group of enclosures, recorded in SK 94 SW 35, which may similarly have a curvilinear ditch enclosing smaller enclosures. (Morph No. LI.747.8.1-24)

Further air photographs taken in 2005 show this cropmark site clearly. (5)
