More information : An alien cell of Benedictine monks was founded at Edith Weston c. 1114 and dissolved in 1394 (1). It probably stood to the N.W. of Edith Weston Hall, in the park, where there are fishponds [at SK 92360559] and some signs of former buildings. (1-2) The fishponds were surveyed cent. at SK 92480563; no building site could be identified. (3) Visible evidence on APs. (4) Published survey of 1968 correct. This site will probably be flooded by a new reservoir. (5) The ponds are oddly sited on a west facing ridge and are haphazardly arranged. They have been stone-lined evidently as parish amenities. A little down the slope to the west there is a more or less level platform (unsurveyable) which is probably the evidence of former buildings noted by the VCH. (6) Site now partly submerged. See illustration card, 2. (7) |
