More information : A Saxon mint is supposed to have existed in Newark. A coin of King Edwy (955-959), in the British Museum, is said to have been struck here. Coins were also struck in Newark during the reign of Stephen (1135-1154). A supposition that coins were issued from Newark during the reigns of Henry I and Henry II is very doubtful.
