More information : (SK 818 337 to SK 818 359) A former Duke of Rutland constructed a private railway, in 1793, extending from Grantham Canal to Belvoir Castle, a distance of about three miles. (It appears on OS 25" 1st ed 1886)(1) The line of the railway, probably a waggon way or tramway, can be traced throughout its length as a terraced way or embankment, and in places the stone chairs can be seen in situ with the occasional length of rail.
