Summary : Five Neolithic polished stone axes (four of petrological Group VI, plus a fragment of a Group VII axe), an Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead, and some Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axes were found among Roman contexts during excavations on the Roman site of Margidunum (SK 74 SW 5) between 1910 and 1936. They are in Nottingham University Museum. |
More information : A barbed and tanged arrowhead, polished greenstone axes and bronze socketed axes were found in Roman occupation layers, during excavation of Margidunum (SK 700416) in 1910-36 by F.Oswald. (1) All the material from Oswald's excavations is held by Nottingham University in the museum. See SK 74 SW5 for area of excavations marked on plan. (2) Five Neolithic axes were found at Margidunum; four are of group VI, the other, a fragment, is group VII. (3)
