More information : Part of the foundations of Lambley Manor House (presumably extant in 1394) are incorporated in the present Rectory (SK 63294540). Traces of a moat are visible in the Rectory grounds, and the old fishponds are represented by depressions in the field to the east. (1) A depression immediately south of the Rectory and extending eastwards into the adjacent field, could be the moat. Nothing resembling fishponds can be seen. (2) The house is at present unoccupied and is probably due for demolition. No signs of an earlier building could be recognised in its fabric. An 'L' shaped depression in the N angle of the garden may be the reported 'traces of a moat' (Authy 1), but in its present condition the feature is non-classifiable. South of the Rectory two new houses are being built. A large sub-rectangular, partly waterfilled depression to the E is a pond with a central square island, but it appears of no great age. (3)
1459 rental for Lambley manor and 1609 Sherwood Forest map suggest location of Cromwell's medieval manor house is immediately to the south of the church, and not at the rectory, as stated in auth. 1. (4)
