Summary : Landscape park, pleasure grounds and gardens to Annesley Hall. The park was emparked as a deer park in 1327 and contains remains of a 13th century motte and bailey castle. Landscaping took place during the 17th century. The garden terraces had been laid out by 1677. Further improvements to the grounds, including the laying out of gardens and pleasure grounds, were carried out by John Chaworth-Musters from 1859.

Annesley Park - 600 acres with a plain wire fence. There is
a natural water supply of one lake and eight ponds. The area is
hilly with largr timber and bracken. There are 200 fallow deer and
there were wild cattle here in 1669. (2)

Annesley - 780 acres, 450 open to the deer - a herd of 300 fallow
deer.
This park was enclosed by license dated 17.7.1673. (3)

Reproduces Thoroton's view of Annesley Old Park, published in
1677. (4)

There is no evidence as to the site of the Md deer
park. The 1673 license [Authy 3] does not relate to the deer-parks
published on successive OS maps. (5)

No evidence of a Md. park or park-pale was gained in field
investigation. (6)

A deer park of 1327 containing the remains of a 13th century motte and bailey castle and landscaped during the late 17th century for Annesley Hall. The park comprises open parkland to the southeast, and woodland to the east, southwest and northwest. The walled formal gardens were also created during the late 17th century and the shrubbery planted in the 19th century. (7)

The garden terraces had been laid out by 1677. Improvements to the grounds including the laying out of gardens and pleasure grounds were carried out by John Chaworth-Musters from 1859. (8)
